Minutes of HICCA
Meeting at 9 Merton Road, 8 pm March 20th 2008
Present: Steve,
Niels, Siobhan, Ken, Anna, Malcolm (after item 6)
Apologies: Martin, Nigel,
Sara, David
1. Minutes of
the last meeting
These were
agreed. It was agreed to circulate
minutes to yahoo group and mailing list,
and
also to post on the
website in order to allow those who aren’t involved in
meetings to know what’s
happening.
2. Matters
arising from the minutes:
2.1 DVD of
David Mackay talk
Anna reported that David Mackay had given permission for the recording of
his talk to be circulated to friends.
Nigel had emailed that he would be able to copy DVDs this week. Anna agreed to organise distribution of
DVDs to the people who had requested them.
If Nigel wasn’t able to provide sufficient copies, then Ken would. Anna agreed to mail the yahoo group
offering them the opportunity to borrow the DVD. Siobhan would forward this email to the
mailing list.
2.2 Mark Lynas
talk
Had gone very well. 60
people attended and several had commented that it was an excellent meeting. Ken was thanked for organising the
event, and also for the donations towards publicity costs from Hollyoaks
and from Danxtel (dolphinear.com).
Review of publicity: the
survey returns indicated that all of the ways we had used for publicity had been
useful (fliers in paper, newspaper
article, email, posters, word of mouth and the sign on the B1049).
Review of venue: Methodist
Hall had cost £25. Good in terms of
location, size (not too big), proximity to pub,
opportunity to stay as long as we like. If we use it again, we might want
to offer teas and coffees. Lack
of projection facilities was a
drawback.
2.3 Eleventh
Hour Leonardo de Caprio film
Siobhan reported that St Andrews church were happy to show this as a
joint venture, and that Sunday 1st June had been reserved for that purpose. Next action is to view the DVD as
soon as it is released in mid April to
decide whether it is suitable. (Ken – am I right in thinking that you have it on
order?)
2.4 Home Energy
event
It was agreed to postpone the Home Energy evening tentatively planned for
1st May, and incorporate it into a
week of events around National Energy Saving Week which is 20-28 October
(the week before half term). The
aim would be to involve as many other organisations in the village as
possible. Siobhan to circulate a
starter list of ideas for this week, to be added to by others, and discussed at
next meeting.
2.5 Transport
matters
In response to the open letter from HICCA following the November
Transport meeting at IVC, the parish councils had invited HICCA to a Joint
Parish Council meeting on April 10th. Niels and Steve were planning to
attend.
3. Finances
An account at the Cambridge Building Society had been set up, with
signatories Hero, Siobhan and Nigel
(Treasurer). Siobhan reported that
applications for funding from Impington Parish Council needed to be submitted by
June 16th. The application for
funding of £300 for 6 energy monitors had been accepted by the Feast committee,
(exact amount depending on funds raised during Feast week). We will be asked to sell some Feast
programmes in the weeks before Feast
week.
4. Correspondence with James
Paice MP
JP had responded to our recent letter. Siobhan to post reply on yahoo
group.
5. AGM and Social
Event
A date, July 5th was agreed (NB We’ll have to change this as
it clashes with the Feast Market).
Time 3 pm for the AGM with bring and share low carbon picnic to
follow. South Road park or the Pavilion on the Rec were
discussed as possible venues.
Siobhan to investigate availability and cost of the Pavilion. We discussed that we would like to
invite other local groups with a view to together becoming more
effective.
6. Community Renewable Energy
Project
SCDC has commissioned a report from a consultancy called Environs on the
potential for community renewable energy projects within South Cambs. Steve and Ken had met with Gareth Ellis
from Environs and learned that various funding streams will become available in
April for a number of options. The
report is due out in the coming weeks.
Ken reported that 23 of those attending the Mark Lynas talk had indicated
on the survey that they would like to be involved in a Renewable Energy strategy
for the villages.
7. Development of
Website
Malcolm to post more documents on the website, inc minutes of
meetings.
8. Questionnaire to people on
mailing list.
We discussed a questionnaire with the purpose of finding out who is on
our mailing lists, and in what way they might like to get involved. Suggested questions included What is
your job? Would you be willing
to.... (various jobs which
need doing, from putting fliers through doors to organising an event); Are you
currently doing anything re renewable energy? Suggestions for things HICCA could
do... suggestions for speakers...
Steve to
draft, and circulate to core group.
9.
‘Any Questions’ event
during Feast Week.
Siobhan reported that
Neil Davies had requested the involvement of HICCA in an Any Questions event on
27th June. There was
general enthusiasm for the idea, and a number of panellists were suggested. Siobhan to liaise further with
Neil.
10. Any Other
Business
We discussed speakers for future meetings, and decided that the next
speaker meeting should be in the autumn.
11. Next
meeting
8 pm on Wednesday 30th April at Steve and Hero’s – 13 South Road. NB NOT THURS!
